Analysis of the investigation situation in the tourism career of the Mayor de San Simón University

Abstract

The investigation is considered one of the three substantive functions of the San Simón Univer- sity, however, it is not yet strongly considered into the Tourism Career. This situation leads to approach the next general objective: Identify the factors in professors, students and institution of the Tourism Career of the UMSS, which are determinants for the research and publication of scientific works with specific themes in tourism, that allowed the construction of a conceptual model of investigation that guides in a good way this substantive function. To achieve this, a mainly qualitative methodolo- gy was used, through the compilation and do- cumentary analysis; but also some quantitative resources were used to operationalize specific datas; through which it was possible to perceive: a latent commitment and interest by professors, students and authorities; the lack of favorable scenes for research; the growing development and demand of the tourist context, etc. All these factors lead to the establishment of an ideal conceptual model of investigation that guides better the functioning of this substantive activity; which presents factors, variables and an objective image that presents the ideal situa- tion of the investigatio that the Tourism Career should achieve in order to improve this impor- tant activity.
